The rapid development of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) represents a frontier in maritime technology. These advanced vessels, capable of sailing autonomously, offer numerous benefits, including enhanced operational efficiency, reduced human error, and improved safety. The guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system plays a pivotal role in the safe and reliable operation of ASVs. This system encompasses technologies ranging from modern sensors to complex algorithms and software used for providing environmental perception, situational awareness, and decision-making capabilities to the ASV.
This special session will focus on original contributions and their practical applications to the advancements in the models and methods for the GNC of an ASV. It aims to explore their potential to improve the safety and resilience of future maritime operations at open sea or inland waterways. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights from experts in the field, who will present their research and discuss the future challenges of developing these technologies.
