Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is a multifaceted institution offering education and research in the technical sciences at an internationally recognized level. TU Delft comprises eight faculties, unique laboratories, research institutes and schools. A key focus area involves the design and operation of transportation & logistics systems. TU Delft is a founding member of the PhD Research School on Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics and the Transport Institute. TU Delft is also a member of the European Technology Platform “Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe”. The Department of Maritime & Transport Technology, part of the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime, and Materials Engineering, leads the research on new concepts based on innovative types of ship design, propulsion and energy storage, benefitting from latest insights in hydromechanics, combined with distributed intelligence and the application of smart components in multi-actor, waterborne environments. Research is carried out within the framework of national and international (H2020) projects, often involving multi-disciplinary consortia comprised of academia, industry, and societal organisations.
